Paper Published in Science of the Total Environment

A paper by Dr. Runsen Zhang and Dr. Tatsuya Hanaoka was published in Science of The Total Environment, entitled “Opportunities and challenges of post-pandemic’s new normal: Rethinking the contribution of the transport sector to China’s carbon neutrality by 2060”.

The study uses scenario simulations to examine how post-pandemic behavioral changes reshape the role of the transport sector in achieving China’s carbon neutrality target. The results show that lifestyle changes can substantially reduce CO₂ emissions, although these gains may be partially offset by declines in public transport and shared mobility, highlighting the need for region-specific policy packages.
